2005 Chevy Impala Engine Size unknown Two Wheel Drive Automatic 87,000 miles

Sometimes my speedometer seems to work fine. Others times stays at 0 or whatever speed it stuck at. Other times gets stuck for a minute then is fine. Sometimes it is too fast or too slow! Any idea? Also, my check engine light does NOT come on when this is happening!
