I just bought an '05 Impala, and I'm now noticing a couple things that concern me. Generally, the ride seems a little rough. Secondly, once I get up to 55 mph the ride gets rougher and I start to feel some vibrations through the steering wheel. I've also noticed that the steering wheel seems to turn very smoothly on right turns, but there's a little hitch or uneveness when I make a left turn.

The vibration is most likley a wheel balance problem. Have the tires checked for any cupping or flat spots. If they are ok, have them balanced. The turning concern can be difficult to diagnose without being able to drive it, but I would say it's probably a sticking steering intermediate shaft. You can purchase the shaft at your local dealer.
