2005 Chevy Impala Cool air gone

Just all of a sudden, air conditioner quit. Worked fine one day, out the next. Have purchased freon refills, connector hose with gauge; valve is on the top in the back above firewall ---- pressure gauge on connecting tube, does not even register anything.

Does this setup have a knob to screw down to depress valve or is it a copuler that you pres on. Either way make sure you are depressing scrader valve. If it reads 0 then it is flat out of freon. Major leak possible.
