2005 Chevy Impala 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 64000 miles

my thermostat is rising to 260 when the car is on stop mode but when is running (on the road) is goes to the middle of the thermastat. is that normal?

check coolant level
check if the coolant fan working when above 230
they should be working
if not check the fuses and relays
let me know
