2004 Chevy Impala leaking fuel regulator 3.4L

I have a 2004 3.4L Impala. The fuel pressure regulator is leaking where it connects to fuel rail. The manual calls for taking off the upper intake to gain access. That seems a little excessive. I did find some info stating you could gain access enough by removing the throttle linkage, which looking at it seems possible. Also read to where someone else was experiencing the same issue, basically started smelling gas at times and today the regulator was wet with gas appearing to come from between regulator and fuel rail. The other person who had same issue stated he changed regulator and within a couple weeks had same issue. Now either he didnt put it back together properly and caused another leak or there is something else causing this. What would you do?

One way you can do it is stick a screw driver handle into the throttle body plate. This "for me at least" holds the linkage up so you can get a adjustable wrench in there to looses the line and a torx on a swivel to remove the regulator. Make sure you dont cross thread it when you put it back on

I had posted this question a couple weeks ago and was able to complete the job. I did not have to pull the intake off. I was able to hold the throttle plate open with a clamp. Also made a wrench from a piece of flat stock to hold the regulator from turning and was able to get an 18mm underneath to remove the nut from the fuel line inlet. The torx bit was used along with the help of a 1/4 combo wrench and off it came. You do have to sort of twist the regulator out of there, but much less time consuming than going by the haynes manual. There again nothing against the manual.
