2004 Chevy Impala Gauges

Recently my gas gauge has been acting funny. It will not go all they way down to E when I turn off the car. Then when I start the car the next time the gauge will go above F and stay up there. Often, it will go all the way around to right below E on the under side of it, almost making a full circle. Now the other day my tempature gauge started doing the same thing and not going all they way down to the left and then reading a higher tempature than actual. Is there something wrong with all of the gauges?

I don't think it is the guages. it could be a connectiion. some fuel guages float and do not go down when the vehicle is shut off. now your temperature guage is acting up. you can try disconnecting the negative side of the battery and leaving it off for a minute then reconnect it , sometimes this will reset the computer. With that year vehicle you will have to drivwe it about 30 miles before the computer will completly reset. Taking the battery cable off will give you a chance to check them to make sure they are clean and tight when put back on. See if that works

My previous techician said that with my 04 Impala, the motor has plastic valves and that between 70 and 80 thousand miles I will need them to be replaced. Have you heard anything about this, is it true? Or was the guy just playing with my? Thanks.

sometimes it could happen there is no real time they would go bad, some last the lifetime of the car. have you tried to reset the computer? As with anything new or old one cannopt tell when it would act up.

My car's transmission has been slipping a few times recently when I have been starting from stop lights. I have had my transmission recently flushed, within the past 3 months. I am going to check the trans fluid today. Transmission has 74k, any suggestions about what to check or do? have other Impalas had transmission problems?

90% of the time we had to replace the cluster for gauge problems in the dealership. Usually with the fuel guauge it was the level sender, but since your having a problem with the temp gauge most likely this will correct it. With a tech 2 scan tool you can perform a sweep test and see if they will line up correctly most of the time they wont, but i have seen one reset once doing this.

Well, I tried to reset my gauges by unhooking the battery cables, but it never worked. I guess I am going to have to price an instruement cluster and replace that. Thanks for your advice.
