2003 Chevy Impala the dashboard ligths dont turn on

hi i just but a 3.8 2003 impala from the police auction and the ligths from the dashboard turn off everytime that i turn the head ligths on.

this usually means the dash fuse is blown or the dimmier switch is turned down to low.
