Heater problem
2003 Chevy Impala 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

In this recent cold weather my car is not heating up despite the fact the engine is warming up. In fact it blows mostly cold air. However, when I drive it for a while there is some heat but when I idle/stop the cold air returns. I replaced a radiator hose last winter for this same problem. Could it be a water pump problem or something else?

First check and see if the coolant is full. Sounds to me like you have a leak in the system. If you do have it pressure tested to find the leak.

Could be air in the cooling system. Let the engine warm up with the rad cap removed.

That doesnt work so well. Its better to open the bleeder screws on the lines and thermostat housing. What I would do is change the thermostat. It might be getting stuck. The other thing is make sure there is enough coolant. Water pumps usually go bad where the seal is and it starts leaking. I would check the thermostat first.
