how much should it cost and is this something that you can do on your own

First you have to find out what's wrong. You would need a chassis scanner to scan the error codes in ABS/Traction control module.

Could be as simple as the loose/broken wheel sensor, or the traction control module.

Get the diagnosis first, generally these codes have to be scanned by dealer or competent garage. Once you know the problem you can deciede on a course of action.
