2001 Chevy Impala temp guage

The temp guage has apparently malfunctioned. It has spun all the way around, and now my electric fan will not stop running. I live in minnesota and the fan has hardly ever run in the winter time. Any sugestions would be great

Is it full of anti-freeze? Usually the fan runs when the engine temp is around 230 F. The gauge is a problem with GM's. If you remove the cluster, you can manually move the gauge over to where it should be and it will work again 99% of the time. Check the fluid level though. Are you running the defroster when fan is on?
