This weekend my car started making a screeching /grinding noise when I turn on the AC. The AC still works but I am afraid to use it in fear of tearing something up. What could this be?

I do believe you have an issue with the AC clutch assembly. Raise hood observe clutch it should be tan in color and grabs and slips.
