how do I fill the radiator. With no cap on the radiator. The coolant does not simply drain from the reserve tank.

You fill it from the radiator overflow reservoir. Once filled and you start the car there is a bleeder screw on top fitting that the upper radiator hose fits on and the thermostat is under also. Once a steadily flow of fluid is coming out close it and all air should be out. I would also turn the heater on when filling.
