2005 Chevy Express Check Engine light

Engine code check shows catalytic Converter problem. Mechanic turned light off. Said maybe just needed reset. If comes back on, then probably needs repair. Ready to trade it in. Do not want to spend a lot to fix this, if thats the problem. Is it possible to repair the converter in lieu of replacing? Possible a blown fuse in the MIL? Thanks

It is a replacement. When they go bad, they melt down inside. As far as the light, has it come back on?
