I messed up and left my 3500 v8 box truck running from about 12 noon until? The truck probably had 3/4 of a tank of gas and the outside temperature was about 25 deg F. The result was that it was totally dead this morning, put a smart charger on the battery and it's error message was open battery cell, took the battery out and reconnected the charger, the battery charged normally. No apparent smell, oil leakage, evidence of fire. The full gauge is pegged past full - no power. The truck is poorly accessible for a tow truck.

Did the truck run out of gas? Or did the truck stop because the battery died?

Both. Ran out of gas and accessories were on until dead. Pulled battery, was able to charge, put back in and it did turn over. Need to get gas and get it started. I hope that will go well.

An additional problem I have been having is that I replaced the fuel sending unit, tank install, last summer, fired right up. Changed fuel filter also. Within a short time the sender loses it's prime. I must use starting fluid to get it going when it is cold. The pump is humming normally with accessories on.

Did you change the fuel pump chassy harness electrical connector? If not, then it could be causing an intermittent connection problem. When you unplug these connectors, the pins inside the connection can open up a bit, causing a loose connection. Sometimes it takes months to find it's way loose.
Also, if you didn't use an A/C Delco or Delphi fuel sending unit, then the check valve on the new aftermarket unit may be failing.
