Chevrolet 3500 Express Van
year : 2000

Engine ran fine but at highway speeds for longer periods "check engine" light would come on but no noticeable change in engine performance.

One day while accelerating from stop there was a very sudden loss of engine power and a "fluttering" exhaust sound.
Thereafter the engine has run very rough especially at low speeds.
Engine also suddenly gets very bad gas mileage.

Repair shop did compression check and read loss of compression on #5 and #7 cylinders.
Check Engine code verified compression loss.

No oil in coolant.

Check of valve springs showed no bad springs.

Hi
Cylinder leak down test can determine if exhaust or intake valve burnt also maybe headgasket failure . Anyway needs to be torn down and repaired the leak down will tell if rings or piston is at fault a much costler repair.
Hope this helps
Thanks for donate
