1998 Chevy Express power steering

my van was leaking power steering fluid and making noises when i turn the wheel, one day all the sudden the noise stopped and my van was very hard to turn. Is it the power steering pumpor the hoses or both, or am I totally wrong?

First check pressure and return lines for leaks, if OK, then most likely the pump is bad.
