Would a certified mechanic know if a head gasket is blown immediatley?

he should be able to use a chemicial tester that has a rubber cone on the end of it that goes into ur coolant bottle they put chemicials in it start the vechile if it turns a certain color then it means u have exhaust gases in ur cooling system meaning u have a bad gasket or head.or it may just be leaking visually.hope that answers ur question.
