Transmission problem
1979 Chevy El Camino V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have replaced the torque converter seal and the same leak is still there. When I pulled the driveline in preparation to lower the transmission from the vehicle, the transmission spline was real sloppy up and down and sideways. Replaced the fluid and the filter as well, and still leaks. What could be wrong?

Did you clean and polish the converter input where the seal rides?Sometimes they will get a wear groove in them and a new seal wont bond. Also did you put a light amount of oil on the seal surface where it rides on the converter? If not the rubber may have been ruined when the car was started from being on a dry surface. Also check real close to see if the fluid is coming from the seal around the outside of the front pump, they are just a rubber o'ring/gasket combo and will leak after so many years
