I am new to the forum but need help. I have a 78 Chevy Corvette and with all my nfinite wisdom (not much), I was changing my alternator and forgot to disconnect the battery. I know, I know. Very stupid on my part. Anyway, the + wire grounded out and I saw a puff of amoke come from the opposite side of the engine under the AC. I had talked to a buddy of mine and he said that I may have burned out the fuseible link or ground wire. My question is, where is the fuseible link and does that like what it might be. I know enough to make me dangerous but electrical is not me forte. Where is the link so that I can replace it or what else does it sound like? The car acts like there isn't even a battery in the car and I get absolutely nothing.

78's are very basic as far as eletronics go. First go to parts store and buy a repair maunel for you year Corvette. Spend the $ and inside will be a stymatic. It will show you were the fuseable links are. Have you checked your fuse box yet? To see if any thing other than the link got torched? Make sure you have a good starter. Bench test it. And make sure the battery has a full charge. Also with year of your car. It is possable that alot of wiring changes have been made. Check for splices for add on stereos, performace equipment ect.
Good luck.
