My 2001 chevy corvette LS1 with 94k miles has a check engine code of 357. I replaced the coil pack on the 7th cylinder and reset the code, but it came back in a couple days with the same code. The car seems to miss a little and I can smell coolant under the hood after the car has warmed-up. There is no coolant under the vehicle, but I do have to add some occasionally. If I do a lot of stop and go driving and drive it hard, the temp gets up to 215 degrees and returns to 190 degrees. What is the problem(s)?

I had my buddy Dave take a look at the car and he found the answers. The problem with the loss in coolant happened to be coming from the water pump. He stuck a mirror underneath and found coolant leaking from the water pump housing.

The problem with the engine code 357 is most probably the wiring harness. He talked to a guy that is heavy into corvettes and he said that the wiring harness is undersized and it's a common problem with these cars. An open or shorted wire in the harness going to the coil pack of cylinder 7 would cause this code and the missing.

Hope this helps others.
