my 88 vette shows at times upto 226 degrees in the digital displat on the dashboard, while showing 185 to 206 on the water temperature reading.
what is the normal operating tempof the oil?

The oil temp will be 30 to 70 degrees hotter that the coolant temp. depending if you have an oil cooler or not. If the question suggests what is a safe temperature for oil? Then what weight and type of oil are you using - synthetic or conventional?
