I have a 1971 corvette stingray that has been sittin for about 25 years and i want to rebuild it. I know that I am going to have to put money into this vehicle but im willing to take the risk. It has a 454 v8 engine, 4 speed transmission. There no drivers window so it does has some water damage from sitting out in the weather for a couple years so i guess i need to do interior work. I thinking the 1st thing i should do is to see if the engine turns over. what all do you need to do to try to check if it turns over? And in what order would you go about in rebuilding this car.

that could be a really long answer but ill try to keep it quick. i recently restored a 77 vette. u will prolly have to rebuild the engine but u never know. first replace the battery with a new one. also the air cleaner, spark plugs and wires. Use carb cleaner to clean all around the carb area (with the air cleaner removed). u prolly dont want to use the fuel if any thats in the fuel tank so i suggest using fuel from a clean gas can. remove the fuel line (after the mechanical fuel pump so it still pumps the fuel) and preferrably replace the fuel lines to the car. they are cheap like $1 a foot or so. then try to crank her over. it will take a while for the fuel to get into the carb so be patient. if the engine cranks, you are very close but if not the engine could be siezed/bad starter or a bunch of other things. if it cranks but doesnt start, check if u are getting fuel to the carb and u smell it. if u do then the timing could be off or a bunch of other things like no spark. hope it helps and u get it running. a 454 would be soooo nice. i only have a 350. good luck
