Engine Performance problem
1995 Chevy Corsica 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

thank you for considering my question.
Question: is this engine one that can have what i have heard it called as 'irreversible damage'. In other words the timing chain broke. I went in and replaced both gears, chain, and tensioner. The engine cranked and run like a brand new one. Now... about a month later the engine, while parked and idling, just stopped running. I pulled the valve cover and cranked on the engine to see if the rocker arms were moving. They weren't. I thought the new chain had broken again. When I got in there the chain and everything were in place. But the dial pin was broken on the camshaft allowing the gear to just spin on the cam. After repairing the problem the engine won't start. Is it possible for the cam to stop turning in such a position as to let the pistons come up and hit the valves before it stopped rotating thus warping the valves? is this one of these type engines?
