when i put my key into my chevy corsica and turn it, nothing catches and it's just turns back and forth and the engine doesn't start. The lights still turn on when i turn the key. It feels like the part that is supposed to catch is slightly pushed back into the steering column. Could a part of the ignition switch become unscrewed at the front?

check for a burnt fusible link at the starter. usually that is what the problem is. but it could be other things as well. the fusible link is a small wire connected to a larger wire .there are a couple of them.....
