What would cause excessive wear on tires with 10,000 miles on them? And what would cause the lower control arm to snap in half while driving?

The control arms don't just break. The tire wear was probably caused from a damaged lower control arm. The damaged arm then boke while driving. I would say someone probably damaged the vehicle and did not tell you about it.
