Smells problem

I have a problem that I'm trying to pinpoint the cause and after calling the dealer which I bought it from and the shipper, I'm coming up empty. I recently bought this car, 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS S/C, from a dealership with 19k miles on it. The inspection sheet that they sent me showed that the car was in perfect condition and no engine/exhaust problems. I had the vehicle shipped across the US in an enclosed trailer which took 22 days. When I received the vehicle, the mileage was the same with the gas tank empty (due to hazardous material regulations). The problem is that when the car was started white smoke (not grey or blue) came out the exhaust with a foul sense of burning smell. This white smoke lasted a couple minutes. Everytime after the smoke goes away after a couple of seconds, same with the smell. Also there is a clicking sound, like a pen clicking, when idling. The first thought is that the head gasket was blown but the dealer said that there is no way that a gasket could have blown. Second, the clicking is throwing me off. So, can you please help me on this issue and tell me what you think could have gone wrong during shipping or if the dealership is lying. Thank you.
