Engine Performance problem
1997 Chevy Cheyenne V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 180.00 miles

HI GUYS MY SON TOOK OUT THE DISTRIBUTOR NOT KNOWING WHAT HE WAS DOING. PLEASE HELP ME I AM HIS FATHER AND AM DISABLED AND STUCK IN THE HOUSE. I USE TO BE REALLY GOOD WITH THE OLDER TRUCKS.
PLEASE SEND ME A STEP BY SET ON GETTING THE DISTRIBUTOR BACK WHERE IT BELONGS. HE DID NOT TOUCH THE LOWER END OR THE TIMING CHAIN SO IT'S A MATTER OF GETTING THE DISTRIBUTOR BACK IN THE TRUCK. HE IS ASKING ME IF WHEN THE TIMING MARKS ARE LINED UP SHOULD THE ROTOR BE POINTING AT THE #1 WIRE ON THE DISTIBUTOR CAP.
PLEASE THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOREVER HELP.
RANDY M.
THANKYOU

If you have not fixed the problem yet, you want to put a socket and ratchet on the crank shaft and turn the engine over until your timing mark comes up to 0 degrees (btc) before top dead center, then have your rotor on #1 cyl. Typical gm firing order is 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2. With being set at 0 btc the engine should run but if you want to advance the timing, disconnect the tan and black wire near the distributor, or jump the a and b terminal on an obd 1 vehicle. I find about 4 degrees advanced works pretty good.
