Engine Cooling problem
1996 Chevy Cheyenne 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Can I run my truck with no thermostat? I changed the water pump in 2006, and the thermostat 3 days ago. It still overheats and I can hear the fluids boiling when I get started but then it generally cools back down. I have checked the antifreeze levels. I have been told I can remove the thermostat and the fan will constantly run. The engine does not overheat the entire time I am driving, it goes up and down. Thanks.

I would rather see you figure out the problem, has the radiator cap been tested? If it does not hold the right pressure, you will overheat, or the cooling fan may not be working. As truck moves 35 mph and over it will cool without a fan. Fan shoulld run constantly with A/C turned on, and come on as needed the rest of the time. Figure out whats not working, post result here!
