My truck has recently started shaking while in drive and the service engine light flickers off and on. It also has been making backfiring noises.

If the check engine light is on, there will be a code stored in the computer. Take the car to nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer. Most will do it for free. The code they get will help identify the problem.
