1993 Chevy Cheyenne Temp Guage not working

Hi,
Temperature guage is not working and I've replaced the temp sending unit but with no success. Would it be the guage itself? How would I test for this?

Check and test the coolant temperature gauge sending unit on front of left cylinder head
