1971 Chevy Cheyenne clacking noise in rear end

My truck is making a clacking noise from the diffrential in the rear end, only make the clacking noise when coming to a stop or when let off the throttle. What is causing this noise

Check your rear u-joint. Grab driveshaft and twist back aand forth, see if there is any play

Yep I agree with TALON, I would check the U joints form what you have described they are the problem which is common.

Also, check the driveline center support, they go bad as well.
