1981 Chevy Chevette not firing

1981 Chevy Chevette V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

my friend has a 1981 vett. it won't fire just turns over. there are some wires coming by the distrib and going to the fire wall. if we un plug the wires the car starts and runs but the check eng light stays on .if we plug the wires back in the car won't start.this all started after bringing it out of storage,it also is running rough.

go to the DIY section and it will show how to diagnose your system. you will have to find it though.
