1971 Chevy Chevelle V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The starter will not disengage. I turn the key to start and it will not disengage, even after removing the key. I have to disconnect the battery. I removed the starter and solenoid and had them tested, replaced them and same thing.

one of your wires must be hitting the wrong side of the solenoid to cause this. Or your starter wire leading to the ignition switch is still getting uice to possibly being crossed at the wrong place. Another thing to check is make sure you have grounds- body to battery- engine to battery-and body to engine.

Might be a bad ignition switch, the electrical part. Is it a dash mounted switch, or column? If its on the column, there are two screws that mount the switch. if they get just a little loose,
when you move the key to the crank position,it could cause the starter to keep cranking.
