HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED TO REPLACE THE STARTER OR THE SOLINOID SOME TIMES I HAVE TO HIT ON IT TO GET IT TO TURN OVER AND SOMETIMES IT THE SOLINOID WONT CLICK?

I won't replace a starter without also replacing the solenoid. If banging on the starter gets it going, sounds like bad brushes.
