Electrical problem
1989 Chevy Celebrity 179000 miles

My back lights stay on when I shut off the car. Any idea what is going on here?

Hello, what lites are staying on?

If it is the brake lites, check the circuits at the brake switch. If it is the tail-lamps, check the circuits at the headlamp switch.

All I know is it is the 3 lights on each side of the car. Where would the brake switch and the headlamp switch be?

The knob you pull to turn on the headlamps, that is the headlamp switch.

As far as the brake switch, follow the brake pedal arm,up, there should be a switch.

I'd check all wiring circuits before replacing anything.

Thanks. It was also suggested I check the ignition switch. Right now, I disconnect the battery when I am done driving and reconnect when I need to drive.
