is there any special procedure for replacing the fuel filter?

None especially. You're supposed to relieve the pressure in the line with the Schrader valve in the fuel rail first, but I never have. It's under the car, about halfway back, near one side or the other. Probably has at least one flare nut fitting, with the other perhaps a hose clamp.
