1987 Chevy Celebrity High Idle

The idle on my car is very high. It usually idles at around 20 mph. Also when I have the car in park or nuetral the engine is very loud, but when I have it in reverse or drive it calms down. But if I let the car sit for like 24 hours and start it sometimes it won't idle as high, and if I stop it and say start it an hour later it idles high and the engine is loud. What can I do?

First make sure that you don't have any vacuum leaks. Then clean your throttle plate, thirdly, have your idle air control valve tested for faultiness if the first two on the list doesn't solve your problem
