Severe oil leak

85 Chevy cavalier 120000 milies, 4 cylinder. My father in law bought the car cheap. It goes through oil insanely fast, we've checked the oil filter and the oil pan gasket, but they dont appear to be the problem. When you pour the oil in and duck under for a look, you can actually see the fresh oil pouring directly on the pavement. Not all, but most. Any suggestions would be helpful.
