Popping noise

I have a popping noise when I change from reverse to drive in a 1997 chevy cavalier...What is it?

Sounds like it could be a bad engine mount. Or possibly exhaust related. That is if the exhaust is hard mounted at the engine area I would make sure that the hangers are secure.
