I have a 1999 chevy cavalier it is a 2.2. It has like 95ooo miles on it. I have been having problems with starters for my car. I had to replace the one that was on it because when I tryed to start it one day it just clicked would not turn over. So I replaced it with a life time warranty starter from a auto parts store and when it was put on it still would not start so I replaced the battery with a new one because the battery was no good. When the battery was put on and I tryed to start the car it was still clicking and then it started grinding. So I was told that that started was no good and tryed another new one and it did the same thing. So I was told to take that starter back to the auto parts store and get one from a junk yard which I did and it is still clicking and grinding but it starts after that. Now the wires that are connected to the starter dont have the ends on them and I was told that someone had the one wire in the wrong spot on the starter. And that the solonid on the starter is junk. How are the wires suppose to be put on the starter and is the solonid what is causing the grinding. Please help asap.

If you have had 3+ different starters, that isn't your problem. I believe that the solanoid is connected to a negative wire comming off of the battery. I havn't spent enough time with the car to know for sure.

Unfortuneately, I cannot say how the wires should hook up.

Ok, I just did the starter for my girlfirend yesterday. She has a 2003 cav. I have a topic going for her car, but there is no noise or grinding so its prob a diff problem.

Connections:
Top post(screw) should have the green and red wires.
Small post should have the black wire. (Its tiny and doesn't fit on the other two)
Bottom post should have the short braided(looks like a rope) wire.

If your car has the same posts and wires this should work.

As for the real problem: make sure there is plenty of oil in the car.
