. Almost gone.
About two weeks ago I stupidly turned the key in the ignition when the car was already running (in park). The awful noise of the starter (?) Screeching has since returned when I turn the car over-- not always, but often. The car turns over and screeches (the same awful sound one here's when he stupidly turns the key while the car is idling). It doesn't make the noise immediately upon ignition its just (.5 seconds) after: engine running-screech.
Today, for the first time, the starter totally crapped out. Turned the key and. Nothing. I was parked on a slope, and, for whatever reason, when I put the car (automatic) in neutral, with my foot on the break, the car started.
Clearly (I think) I need to replace the starter (perhaps something else needs help, too, but I am guessing that that is what's going). However, I am in Mexico, and I don't know how quickly I can get the part. I have been looking for a diagram of the engine to see where the starter is, exactly, so if it lets me down again before I replace it I can give it a couple of wacks (I know, not exactly mechanically sound, but it did allow me to get an earlier beater of mine up and down the road for a number of extra starts).
So, can anyone tell me where I can find that little sucker?
Many thanks!

Which 4 cylinder engine do you have. Should be on the right side of the engine (the side that faces the front of the car) should be at the end of the engine block right where the transmission connects to the engine.
