91 Cavalier cooling fan problem

reading your question i found you almost answered it yourself . check your connector for the temp sensor for damage and or shorted , also check all of the wiring ground and b+ from there to the fan shouldnt be too much wire , the only other thing is check the old switch just to make sure , i think this will be an easy fix , let us know

I do not think the problem is the wiring to the temp switch because when you unplug the switch the default kicks in with a trouble code to start the fan. Maybe there is a fusible link some were.

well it is not the fusible link. I cut the fusible link off since it was an old, sealed one and twisted the wires together to see if the fan would kick on when warm and it did not. I guess I need to get a test light and find out were the power is not getting through

test light and a digi volt meter , they work wonders

well if I find the problem I will post it so others will know because I see this problem a lot on here

check the feed wire from the pcm also , ive seen that a few times

OK this problem is really irratating me. If you can help me fix it I will make a donation. I am NOT getting 12 volts at the fan, I am getting 12.4 V at the fusible link and at the relay but nothing coming out of the relay to the fan, I get 12.04 V at the temp switch but for some reason I only get 5.03 V at the coolant temp sensor. I followed the two wires for the temp sensor all the way to the big connector with all the wires that go into the inside of the car and I am only getting 5.03V at the temp sensor wire there as well, If you give me the answer that allows me to fix this problem I will make a donation.
