2005 Chevy Cavalier Temp Guage

My temp gauge has gone hay wire. It reads well beyond the 260 degree mark. The engine temp is fine and the t-stat appears to be workng as well. The needle on the gauge is now all the way around so it interferes with the speedometer gauge. Have you heard of this anytime before?

It sounds like your engine coolant temperature sensor has gone bad, have it tested or replaced, or even check the connection before you do all that, it could be a bad connection, I would double check that thermostat too. check the fans connections too make sure the harnass/plugs are connected right.
