2004 Chevy Cavalier Windshield wipers

2004 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 68k miles

My drivers side windshield wiper does not work but my passenger side does. I checked the retaining bolt on the drivers side and is tight. What might be the problem?

gear is most likely stripped. when you tightened the bolt did you try turning wipers on to inspect? if not , go ahead and do so and see if the gear is moving and just not catching the teeth on the wiper arm.
