The dimer switch is a roll wheel on the headlight switch, which adjusts the cluster lighting as well, click it over and the dome lights will come on.

Just recenlty (last two weeks), when I come to a complete stop in gear the interior ceiling (dome) light comes on and then goes off once car is in motion. I have had the car since June 2009. This happens day or night whether the light switch is in off or on position.

You could have bad door switches that are moving when you start /stop. Or a relay or if you have automatic things that operate the door lights. Shut all door then try to pull on them one at a time that should show you which switch is bad when the lights come on..

The dome light is shorting out and I want to disconnect it w/out having to pull the fuse (and disabling whatever else is tied to that fuse). It keeps running the battery down.

Pull the bulb out, Or pull the wiring harness connector from the dome light switch underneath the dash. Also if youre battery is draining current, U could also have youre alternator could have burnt out on you.
