Engine Performance problem
2004 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

CAR RAN FINE ONE DAY THEN THE NEXT DAY SUDDENLY WOULDNT START THE NEXT. REPLACED THE IGNITION COIL PACK AND THE CRANK SHAFT POSTIONING SENSOR, THE CAR WILL NOW START RIGHT UP BUT RUNS VERY ROUGH AND THE CATAYTIC CONVERTER GETS VERY HOT REALLY FAST. THERE IS NO BLOCKAGE IN THE AIR INLET AND THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR LOOKS OK. ANY SUGGESTIONS? WHAT HAVE I MISSED?

Hi loveshasta, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation

Disconnect the exhaust pipe on the exhaust manifold and see what happens with the Cat glowing and also if it runs better w/o it

Probable causes of an engine running rich are as follows:

1. Fuel pressure not within specs. Can be cause by restricted fuel return line or defective fuel pressure regulator.
2. Defective Oxygen Sensors.
3. Leaking injectors.
4. Coolant temperature sensor out of calibration.
5. Restricted air intake system.
