2003 Chevy Cavalier The car is starting to get had on Gass

Hi there my cavalier, is atarting to get very hard on gass. I have put new plugs in it, and it has seamed to help alittle, but the tail pipe is starting to get realy black like it is running rich, any ideas, before I start the senser game?

Hi:
If the check engine light isn't on, it's hard to say if it's even a sensor. Make sure there are no vacuum leaks. Also, if the tail pipe is getting black, that indicates a rich fuel mixture. You may want to check the O2 sensor.

Hi:
If the check engine light is on, then you need to have it scanned for codes. Otherwise, we will be guessing the entire time. Most nationally recognized parts stores will scan it for free, so I recommend taking it there to have it done. There will be no out of pocket money spent, and it may provide our answer.
