2003 Chevy Cavalier stiff steering

Hi, I just purchased a used 2003 Chevy Cavalier LS Sport for my wife. Her one major complaint is the stiffer steering. My question is , what can I do to make the steering easier (normal power) ? do I need to change the pump to a normal LS or what? An answer would be greatly appreciated, Thanks, Lowglyd.
