AFTER CAR RUNS A WHILE THE TRANS WORKS BETTER COULD THIS BE A CLOGGED FILTER? OR A SIGN OF MORE SERIOUS ISSUES?

Slipping is NEVER a good sign. Check fluid level (engine running, trans hot), if OK, change fluid and filter. If slipping continues, take it to a reputable trans shop for evaluation.
