I am getting a slight thumping noise from the rear end of my cavalier. This sound is usually heard while slowly coming to a stop while appling the brakes. The tires on the car are brand new so i know that it is not tire cupping.

I would suspect a rear drum out of round. If out of round they will almost cause a wheel hop when coming to a stop.

I would remove the rear drums and inspect the drums and shoes for excessive or uneven wear.
Also inspect hold down pins, and any contamination from leaking wheel cylinders.
